Perio Protect

You are not alone. Millions of Americans have gum disease: gingivitis or periodontitis.

The disease is the body’s response to a bacterial infection in your gum tissue. Common symptoms of oral bacterial infections in the gum tissues include:

  • Bleeding gums when brushing or flossing
  • Receding gums (teeth appear longer)
  • Obvious plaque, tartar, or calculus
  • Spaces developing between your teeth
  • Swollen, red, or tender gums
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Teeth that are loose or mobile

Perio Protect is a comprehensive method that is customized for individual patients in order to help manage biofilms, communities of bacteria growing in the spaces or pockets between the teeth and gum tissues. The overall goal of the Perio Protect Method is to manage this oral biofilm with minimally invasive dentistry for lasting oral health.

The Method combines a non-invasive chemical therapy with the mechanical debridement (removal) of biofilm. The chemical therapy relies on a tray delivery of doctor-prescribed solutions to chemically debride biofilm from the periodontal pocket and alter the pocket’s microbiological environment to disrupt biofilm growth. These oxidizing agents chemically remove the protective coating of the biofilm and cleanse the area. They also introduce oxygen into the oxygen-depleted periodontal environment so that these harmful anaerobic bacteria can no longer survive.
